Council is seeking more feedback from the community on its suggested planning controls to better manage rural weddings and events across the Byron Shire.
“Late last year we got a green light from the NSW Government to proceed with our proposed amendment to the planning rules - but this was subject to two important changes and requires another round of consultation to check back in with the community,” Byron Shire Council’s Major Projects Planner, Rob van Iersel, explained.
The changes required by the NSW Department of Planning include: • Removing the reference to permitting rural events on land zoned RU1 Primary Production, such that events would only be permitted on land zoned RU2 Rural Landscape; and • Transferring many of the detailed provisions from the LEP to include them within an amendment to the Byron Development Control Plan (DCP).
“Whether you’re an events operator, a neighbour or just interested in helping Council to get the balance right, we encourage anyone with an interest in rural weddings and events to please view the additions and changes to the LEP and DCP, along with a detailed Planning Proposal document that describes the changes in greater detail, on Council’s website."
“Your thoughts, ideas and feedback has been invaluable to date and we need to hear from our community again on this important issue to ensure that the widest range of views possible is considered and reflected in our planning provisions,” Mr van Iersel said.
“We will be hosting a community briefing meeting to explain the proposals in person and to answer questions at the Bangalow A&I Hall at 5.30pm until 7.30pm on Tuesday 11 February, and we encourage everyone to attend and to make a submission,” he said.
