Restore and rebuild this Clean Up Day

With Eurobodalla’s wildlife and the environment devastated by bushfire, there’s an opportunity for the shire’s residents and visitors to provide real help to nature on Clean Up Australia Day.

Eurobodalla Clean Up Australia project officer Maree Cadman said the focus on Sunday 1 March would be on more than simply clearing junk.

“The bushfire impact will be with us for a long time, so Clean Up this year will focus on connecting communities, supporting local businesses and clearing rubbish from bushland to help nature recover and regenerate,” Ms Cadman said.

“We’ll be purchasing items and gift cards from Eurobodalla businesses as prizes for our volunteers on the day. The more volunteers we get, the more prizes we can buy, getting some extra dollars into the local economy.”

The Clean Up campaign has run in Eurbodalla for more than 25 years, with tonnes of litter removed from streets, beaches, parks, bushland and waterways. Ms Cadman said Clean Up volunteers from South Durras to Tilba collected 48 cubic metres of rubbish and recycling during last year’s event.

“I’m interested to see what turns up this year. With a lot of scrub burnt, there’s a great opportunity to clear out previously hidden rubbish,” she said.

“Why not gee up a team of mates and register a Clean Up site. Or simply turn up on the day at a site near you.

“Once you’re registered, Clean Up Australia will send your kit, including bags, gloves and paperwork. We can help you promote your site, provide extra gloves and bags and facilitate collection and disposal of collected litter.
