Currently Tropical Cyclone Damien is weakening as it moves through the central Pilbara.
Overnight we have received substantial rainfall and flooding remains our concern.
With this in mind, it is a reminder that drains, floodways, creeks and river beds can fill quickly and water flow rapidly through them.
There are many drains around the Tom Price area and also the river bed on the northern side of Paraburdoo, that are prone to flash flooding and pose a threat to adults and children in close proximity.
Many of our roads are also prone to flooding and it is important to check road conditions via our road condition reports and by checking Main Roads Travel Map before undertaking any travel.
All Shire facilities are currently closed - this includes swimming pools, parks, ovals and playgrounds. Our rubbish tip in Tom Price and Paraburdoo will also not open today.
It is advised to look for updates at www.bom.gov.au, www.emergency.wa.gov.au and or listen to ABC Radio (567AM). Updates will continue on the Shire of Ashburton website and Facebook.
