City of Parramatta Council is cancelling its Lunar New Year celebrations, after postponing the event in response to public health concerns regarding the coronavirus last week.
“After much deliberation, we regret to announce that we will not be proceeding with this year’s Lunar New Year event,” City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said.
“We have been working to reschedule the celebrations, but unfortunately due to ongoing public health concerns among the community, Council is unable to deliver the event before the end of the Lunar New Year period.
“It is disappointing we won’t have the opportunity to celebrate this much-loved cultural event this year, and I would like to thank the community for their continued understanding.”
The festival was scheduled to take place on Friday 7 February in Centenary Square.
