Plans for the annual Mayoral Prayer Breakfast is progressing well and everyone is invited.

This year’s event will be held on Friday 28 February from 6:30am in the Pavilion at Gympie Showgrounds and will feature Olympian swimmer Duncan Armstrong as guest speaker.

Duncan became a household name at age 20 after winning the 200m freestyle event at the Seoul Olympics in 1988. It was Australia’s 100th Olympic swimming medal.

Since retiring from international swimming, Duncan has enjoyed careers in television and radio, motivational speaking, endorsements and corporate partnerships. Duncan has also won a host of honours including Young Australian of the Year, a Centenary Medal and an Order of Australia Medal.

Mayor Mick Curran said he is looking forward to hearing Duncan’s story.

“Anyone who rises to the levels of success that Duncan has achieved does so with a lot of hard work, dedication and commitment,” said Mayor Curran.

“And no doubt Duncan has had to face a number of challenges and hurdles along the way, so I’m sure that his story will be a source of inspiration to everyone in attendance.”

Mayor Curran said that the Mayoral Prayer Breakfast is a wonderful opportunity for local businesses, residents, school students and church members to unite as a community and share a morning of breakfast and inspirational discussion.

Tickets cost $20 per person and include a hot breakfast and refreshments. They are available to purchase from the Gympie Civic Centre or at www.eventfinda.com.au/2020/14th-mayoral-prayer-breakfast/gympie.
