Indigenous singer-songwriter Thelma Plum will headline the City of Wanneroo’s free flagship event Global Beats & Eats when it returns to Paloma Park in Marangaroo next month.
Following her success in triple j’s Hottest 100 – which featured three songs from her debut album Better in Blak – six-time ARIA nominee, Thelma Plum, is heading to the City of Wanneroo with her distinctive sound on Saturday 21 March.
Fresh from a sold-out national tour in 2019, Ms Plum said audiences could expect a soulful and stirring set to round out the evening.
“For Global Beats & Eats, I’m going to be playing a lot of music from my album, plus a few of the earlier songs, and maybe a new one or a cover or two,” she said.
Joining Thelma Plum on this year’s line-up are two local acts: Perth-based acoustic singer-songwriter Riley Pearce and indie alt-rock outfit The Struggling Kings, as well as American blues and soul artists Eugene ‘Hideaway’ Bridges.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said Global Beats & Eats was a popular event every year, and urged residents to get their free tickets early to avoid disappointment.
“This crowd-favourite event has hosted some big-name acts and incredible local talent over the years and this year’s terrific line-up is no different,” Mayor Roberts said.
“This year, Global Beats & Eats falls on Harmony Day, making it the perfect occasion for our local community to come together, enjoy some great music and celebrate the importance of inclusiveness.”
On top of smooth and soulful tunes, food from all four corners of the globe will tantalise tastebuds.
A fleet of food trucks and vendors will roll into Paloma Park, offering everything from Italian risotto and Vietnamese bao buns to Spanish tapas, French crepes and Dutch pancakes.
A host of other attractions – including large-scale interactive puppetry from Spare Parts Puppet Theatre and Javanese ‘wayang’ – or shadow puppetry – will captivate and enchant families of all ages across the evening.
City of Wanneroo residents can book tickets from 9am Monday 17 February, with remaining tickets available to non-residents from 9am Monday 2 March.
There is a maximum of four adult tickets and six child tickets per residential address.
Children 12 years and under require a child ticket and must be accompanied by a guardian.
