The Australian Regional Tourism Convention to be held in Ballarat this October will generate an economic benefit of up to $1million and will profile Ballarat as a key conference and tourism destination to a national audience.
The two-day, mid-week convention at the Mercure Ballarat will have an immediate economic impact with the 200 delegates expected to tour the region both pre and post conference.
Angelique Lush, Director of Development and Planning, said securing the hosting rights was a definite coup for Ballarat and the result of many months of work by the Visitor Economy team, with input from local businesses.
“The convention of tourism delegates from around Australia, provides us with the opportunity to raise the City’s profile in this important network, and strengthen relationships with key industry organisations, state and national to support our visitor economy,”
“This is a real opportunity for the industry to build knowledge and to partner with local businesses and aligns with Council’s 10-year Events Strategy to develop and grow Business events,” she said.
Importantly, delegates at the ARTC will have the opportunity to discuss resilience in the face of national adversity in regard to bushfires and the coronavirus impacting regional tourism operators this year.
The ART Convention is considered a must-attend event for local councils, regional tourism organisations, tourism professionals and businesses, and government personnel wanting to contribute to the future of regional tourism in Australia
The 2020 Convention theme is ‘building resilient and adaptive communities that thrive’
