Council has endorsed the first stage of a $2.1 million upgrade of Magazine and Arnold streets in Stratford.

Arnold and Magazine streets are a key connection between two arterial roads – Captain Cook Highway and Aeroglen Drive – through an industrial area.

The upgrade is to be completed in two stages:

Stage 1: Magazine Street from Arnold Street to Greenbank Road.Stage 2: Upgrade the five-way intersection of Magazine Street with Rinks Close and Greenbank Road.

Stage 1 is expected to be completed 30 September 2020, with Stage 2 works planned to start early in the 2020/21 financial year, subject to budget provisions.

The upgrade was identified as necessary to lift the standard of the road to manage traffic volumes, 10 per cent of which is heavy vehicles, including B-Doubles.

Stage 1 works will include road widening, sealed shoulders, concrete footpaths, drainage improvements, water main replacement and lighting upgrades.

The upgrade result in an additional 10 formal carparks, while the sealing and widening of shoulders on both sides of the road will allow for informal parking for up to 100 vehicles.

Arnold and Magazine Streets are also trunk roads and identified in Council’s Local Government Infrastructure Plan as a priority for improvement.
