The public art on display throughout the Gympie region is some of the best around.
Gympie Regional Council recognises the integral part public art plays in the look and feel of the community.
It fosters community identity and pride, enhances our public spaces and is a showcase for visitors to the region.
Members of the community who have visited public facilities such as the Aquatic Recreation Centre, Smithfield Street and Mary Street, for example, may have experienced some of the unique art on display.
Council’s Public Art Management Plan provides the necessary framework to support Council’s efforts to manage, maintain and promote public art across the region.
A draft Public Art Policy will be discussed in tomorrow’s Gympie Regional Council Ordinary Meeting.
“The intent of this draft policy is to ensure Council, in conjunction with the community, is not only supporting, but encouraging the commissioning of public art,” said Pauline Gordon, Director of Council’s Corporate and Community Services.
“Public art adds a depth to the look and feel of our region and we want to make sure we are engaged with the arts sector and broader community when developing and implementing art projects,” Ms Gordon said.
The draft Public Arts Policy will be presented to Council for endorsement tomorrow.
