Local Disaster Management Group remains at Alert Status

Toowoomba Regional Council Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) remains on alert status. The precautionary measure will stay in place.

Mayor Paul Antonio said the alert status would stay in place as a precautionary measure unless conditions change.

“We ask residents to please listen to warnings and updates from the BoM and via TRC’s disaster dashboard,” Mayor Antonio said.

“The LDMG will monitor conditions and provide advice to residents through TRC’s communication channels.

“Latest weather forecasts predict less rain than previously suggested and the variable and changeable nature is why we are keeping a close eye on the situation.

“Road networks have sustained some damage, and we ask drivers to be extremely mindful of local conditions. While roads may be open there may be damage, debris and ‘If it’s flooded, forget it: Back it up.’

“Road closures are published on Council’s website and Disaster Dashboard and updated twice daily.

“We would request that people stay out of floodwaters due to safety concerns, particularly swimming and wading.

“I would reinforce the message of “Be Prepared and Get Ready” to our residents.

“Make sure you have a plan in place, consider your pets, check on your neighbours, help those who are more vulnerable and, in an emergency, always call 000.

“Council will also be making sand available for sandbagging to residents who would like to prepare themselves. Residents will be required to bring their own shovel and sandbags.

“Council is delivering sand to these areas:

Oakey - Cricket Grounds at 4-20 Lorrimer Street in Oakey Jondaryan - Duke Street in Jondaryan (near the steam train). Quinalow/Maclagan – Quinalow Recreation Reserve at the corner of Pechey Maclagan Road and Daly Street Yarraman - Barr Smith Street opposite the Council Depot near Watson Street intersection Goombungee - SES shed at Corner of Mocatta Street and Cooke Street

“The SES only provides sandbags in emergency situations to protect a dwelling from inundation.

“If your property isn't facing immediate threat of inundation but you're wanting to stay prepared in case water levels rise, we've provided sand for bagging at the following locations.
