Be part of the conversation about Council’s Budget for 2020/21

Published on 14 February 2020

Interested in what Council spends its money on and why?  Do you have some ideas, feedback or questions for us? Council wants to hear from you!

“We’ve set up an online Q&A and ideas form for people to complete ahead of two Community Conversation sessions we’ll be hosting from 2pm to 4pm and again at 5pm to7pm in the Council Chambers in Mullumbimby on Monday 24 February,” Council’s Director Corporate and Community Services, Vanessa Adams said.

To take part in the online Q&A or to submit your ideas, go to www.yoursaybyronshire.com.au/our-plan-20-21

“The idea is that people can submit any questions and ideas they might have about priorities for our Budget 20/21 to us before the Community Conversation sessions, where we will have senior staff on hand to provide in-depth answers,” Ms Adams said.

“Our Community Conversations sessions will cover a really broad range of subjects and project areas and we will be laying out facts and figures, providing insight into how our Budget is developed and how the community plays a role in setting priorities.

"We want to hear from the community about which projects they think are important – and why.

“You might have ideas about cycleways or road upgrades and reseals, or perhaps you are passionate about improvement of a particular playground, park or public toilet in Byron Shire?

“Or feel free to just come along and learn more about the inner workings of your Council and how our Budget and Operational Plan is prepared each year.

“These sessions may also be of interest to people thinking of standing as candidates in the September election who wish to find out more about how Council works,” Ms Adams said.

The draft plan incorporating the Budget and Operational Plans for 2020/21 will be placed on public exhibition in May 2020 and will go to Council for adoption in June 2020.
