Second round of community meetings to discuss placemaking ideas

Published on 14 February 2020

A second round of community meetings will take place to further discuss ideas and seek community input for the next round of the Placemaking Program.

The Placemaking Program grants $200,000 annually (approximately $50,000 in each town) to smaller communities to deliver projects that are at the top of the community’s wish list.

Projects are the direct result of consultation and collaboration with communities with the goal to improve liveability, contribute to health, happiness and wellbeing, and visitor attraction to the towns.

The first round of community meetings was held in January/February. The second round of community meetings will provide further opportunity for community input.

Additional community meetings have been scheduled for:

Noojee: 6.00pm on Tuesday 25 February at Noojee Hall, 7 Henty Street Labertouche: 6.00pm on Thursday 27 February at Labertouche Community Centre, 440 Labertouche Road Darnum: 6.00pm on Monday 2 March at Darnum Memorial Hall, 4 Cropley Street Willow Grove: 6.00pm on Tuesday 3 March at Willow Grove Hall, 12 Moe-Willow Grove Road

All local residents welcome, no RSVP required.

Following each meeting, a survey will be opened to establish the community’s preferred project based on viable suggestions and ideas. The survey will be open for two weeks, available online and in hard copy form in each town. After the survey closes, results will be shared with each community and presented to Council for final review at a future meeting.

The previous round of the Placemaking Program saw projects delivered in Athlone, Erica and Thorpdale, with discussions ongoing for Jindivick. Projects included street beautification works, a new playground and upgrades to recreation reserve infrastructure.
