Little Taccas expands southside

Southside families will have a new option for entertaining and educating their youngsters with the expansion of the award-winning Little Taccas program.

The first Little Taccas program at Edmonton’s Sugarworld Parklands will start on Thursday 5 March, with registrations opening on 17 February.

The nature play-based program aims to connect under 5s and their parents with nature while raising awareness of the region’s natural areas and includes art and craft, storytelling, sing-alongs and garden discovery walks.

Started in March 2014 at the Cairns Botanic Gardens, around 350 young budding green thumbs have already taken part in a Little Tacca’s session.

Mayor Bob Manning said expanding the program to Sugarworld Parklands would double the number of kids that could take part.

“Little Taccas is so popular each program is literally booked out within minutes,” Cr Manning said.

“Now, thanks to our dedicated volunteers, we can offer a second program in Edmonton, giving a whole new group of little ones and their caregivers a chance to explore our amazing natural backyard.”

Little Taccas is delivered as part of Council’s Green Space Our Place program, and is made possible through the hard work of a dedicated crew of volunteers, under the direction of Council officers.

Each Little Taccas programs lasts for 5 weeks, with 4 programs offered throughout the year.

Little Taccas received the Inclusive and Connected Communities Award of Excellence from Parks & Leisure Australia (QLD) in 2016.

Please note, registrations for both the Sugarworld Parkland and Cairns Botanic Gardens sessions open at 8am on Monday 17 February. To ensure as many children as possible can take part, registrations will only be accepted for one location, not both.
