Pit Stop Central Coast – Festival in the Park | 23 February
Central Coast Council 14 Feb 2020

Have you heard about the new Pit Stop Central Coast project launching at Festival Park, Health and Well-being section that is held at Anzac Park, Ulverstone on Sunday 23 February between 10am and 4pm?

What…. Is Pit Stop Central Coast?

As rural and regional men and women regularly take an interest in their cars and the ongoing maintenance of them, the idea behind Pit Stop is to attach this concept of regular mechanical tune-ups to their own health.  The Pit Stop program is run as a series of stations, each involving a quick, simple health check under the concept of a mechanical tune up.

Why…. Pit Stop Central Coast?

The Central Coast community has a high and increasing incidence of preventable chronic health conditions. The Council is committed to working with stakeholders, service providers, organisations and groups around a common vision and agenda to achieve improved health and well-being and bring about positive change to this profile.  The Pit Stop program encourages rural and regional men and women to have and to take a greater interest in both their personal well-being and their health.

Health and well-being are linked and are essential for quality of life, which over the long term is central to active participation and engagement in society.  Physical health is the most important area of overall quality of life.  Physical health is connected to mental and emotional health.  The mind and the body are linked.  When you improve your physical health, you’ll automatically experience greater mental and emotional well-being.

How… Pit Stop works

Men and women are invited to participate and measure their health status by running through a series of stations (health checks and information) Participants first register and proceed through the stations, which are staffed by health professionals and suitably qualified people Once participants have completed at least three stations, their “Work Orders” can be assessed at the registration desk Once checked, they are presented with a ‘registration’ sticker declaring their body is ‘licensed and road worthy’ participants also receive a $5 token to use at food and beverage vendors at Festival in the Park’s Eat Street (no alcohol, no change given and not redeemable for cash).

Who… may benefit from a Pit Stop?

Pit Stop Central Coast is a community engagement tool that encourages rural and regional men and women, particularly those who haven’t been to see a doctor for a while, to take responsibility for their own health journey.  People under 18 years will need to participate with their parent or guardian.
