Ballarat (City) 14 Feb 2020

It’s being touted as the battle of the Mayor and a previous Mayor.

City of Ballarat Mayor Cr Ben Taylor and former Mayor Cr Des Hudson, who served as Mayor in 2015-2016, will race for glory to find out who is the best BMX rider in The Great BMX Race-Off at the Ballarat BMX facility’s upgraded track on Sunday 23 February at 10.30am.

The race will take place ahead of the Ballarat Sebastopol BMX Club hosting the BMX Victoria Open Race Meet, taking place from 10.45am.

The friendly rivalry between the Mayor and former Mayor is designed to promote the Ballarat Sebastopol BMX Club event and encourage Ballarat residents to support and get involved in the sport of BMX.

In November, the club officially opened its upgraded track, funded through the State Government’s Pick My Project initiative with support from the City of Ballarat.

The new track enables BMX riders to participate in the sport year-round and improve their skills while also providing a local boost to the Olympic sport of BMX.

The club recently held a series of female-only coaching clinics in a bid to attract more women and girls into the fast-paced BMX sport, with City of Ballarat promotion and in-kind support. This initiative went to the core of the City of Ballarat’s Active Women and Girls’ Strategy.
