In response to concern from the community, the existing No Stopping zone has been lengthened to account for the length of the Wallerawang Public School front boundary.

In response to community concern regarding the parking situation in front of Wallerawang Public School, Lithgow City Council has responded with a number of changes. In the first instance, parking has been restricted immediately opposite the school due to limited sight distance and a lack of regulated traffic flow. It is expected that this will force parked vehicles to move into the open grassed area of Lake Wallace which is approximately 100m north.

Additionally, in response to concern from both the School and the community, the parking of vehicles outside the school along the western edge of Barton Avenue has also been reviewed. Council’s engineers have found that this parallel parking area does not meet the warrants dictated by Australian Standard 2890.5-1993 Cl. 2.2.2, nor Austroads Guide to Road Design Part 3, Cl. 4.10.2. Hence, to protect both the parents and children of Wallerawang Public School and through traffic motorists, the No Stopping zone along the western kerb line of Barton Avenue outside Wallerawang Public School has been extended to the northern boundary of the school.

These changes have been made with the sole purpose of ensuring the safety of parents and their children. Barton Avenue has an average daily traffic of 3,456 vehicles per day with 36% of those being heavy vehicles. In light of these safety concerns, Council strongly advises parents to utilize the manned pedestrian crossing and safely collect their children from the confines of Lake Wallace.
