Wyndham community groups will be able to deliver new programs as well as environmental and health initiatives thanks to Council’s grants program.

Council has awarded $450,000 to local community groups and not-for-profit organisations for community programs and events through Wyndham City’s 2019-20 Annual Community Grants Program.

Wyndham City Mayor Cr Josh Gilligan said funding was awarded to 36 programs and events across the municipality, which will help form closer-knit communities and a more liveable City for everyone.

“The winning projects focus on events and programs for our young and old, those from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people with disabilities,” Cr Gilligan said.

“We had excellent applications this year and initiatives and events that benefit and build on local skills, encourage positive community connections and relationships, and promote collaboration for stronger community, health or environmental outcomes.”

TRY Australia was granted $20,164 for its Youth Mentoring Program, aimed at improving disadvantaged young people’s education, health, and economic outcomes.

Creating Villages was awarded $10,000 for its Art Spectrum program aimed at providing activities for parents and carers of children who have autism, using craft as a tool to strengthen community connections and build supportive relationships.

NatureWest will receive $4,700 to provide a series of walks and outdoor activities highlighting our City’s diverse native flora and fauna and showing the community how everyone can make positive impacts on the environment.

“This grant will help the group to focus on environmental community activities.”

“Community grants are about strengthening and connecting our community and drawing upon existing skills to support the community to make Wyndham an even better place to live.”
