A Special Council Meeting was held yesterday, Tuesday, February 18, to allow six items that were voted on en-bloc in December to be debated and voted upon individually.
Following a notice of rescission, a Special Council Meeting was called in February due a large agenda expected at Council’s March meeting.
Seven properties have been identified as surplus to Council’s needs; Council resolved to sell the properties for at least market value.
The public will be given an opportunity to make submissions on the proposed sale of the properties, located in Metung, Swan Reach, Lakes Entrance and Kalimna.
Councillors adopted the Election Period Policy. This policy will be followed during the Council election process, which will be held in October 2020.
The policy sets out procedures and practices that aim to ensure the elections are open and fair to all candidates, and that the current Council does not bind an incoming Council and limit its freedom of action.
Council was also presented with a Review of the Organisation’s Operations which identified potential cost savings of $1.5 million for the 2020-21 financial year, as requested by Council last year.
The report was noted and determines the use of any identified cost savings during the Council budget planning process for the financial year 2020-21.
Council authorised a number of staff members to be Appointed and Authorised Officers under the Planning and Environment Act 1987.
This allows those staff members to act on behalf of Council in the administering and enforcing aspects of the Act.
An unused section of road reserve on Limestone Road Benambra is proposed to be discontinued and exchanged with the owner of 81 Limestone Road at no cost to the owner.
It is proposed to undertake a road exchange with this owner, as a portion of Limestone Road runs through the property.
Council also received a report on the Audit and Risk Committee’s October 2019 meeting.
