Step up to clean up Australia on 1 March

Posted on February 19, 2020

Bring the family and step up to clean up Australia on Sunday 1 March.

Registrations for the annual Clean Up Australia Day (CUAD) will kick off at 8.00 am at the Emerald Botanic Gardens entrance on Opal Street (next to McIndoe Park). Participants will be issued with a clean-up kit, including bags for recycling and general waste.

Go to your designated site and clean up what you can. Two council utes will be driving around to pick up as many filled bags as possible. But don’t forget to keep unusual items to go into the draw for the ‘Most Unusual CUAD Item’ prize.

Return to the registration site with any remaining bags by 10.00 am for a sausage sizzle and refreshments.

Please wear a hat, sunscreen and sturdy shoes. While we will have some supplies available, please bring gloves and water.

Clean Up Australia Day is the nation’s largest community-based mobilisation event. In 2019, more than 680,000 volunteers removed more than 15,000 ute loads of rubbish from 6,901 registered sites across the country.

The event celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. Chairman Pip Kiernan said the organisation wants to see 700,000 Australians cleaning up at 8,000 sites nationally to celebrate the milestone.
