It’s the perennial question many parents agonise over. Is my child kindergarten ready?

Families and carers with children looking to enrol in kindergarten for 2021, or unsure of the process, are encouraged to attend our free Kinder Expo on Thursday 5 March 2020 at Karralyka.

Parents will have the opportunity to speak to local providers, ask questions and meet educators from kindergartens in Maroondah who will discuss their programs and centres.

Councillor Tasa Damante said the event was a must for any parent or guardian of a young child thinking about preschool education to ask questions and help identify if their child is ready for kinder.

“Council is excited to again be bringing this expo to families in Maroondah. Our first-ever Kinder Expo held last year provided some useful answers to many common questions from parents, such as: What options are there for funded kinder? When and how to enrol? How do I prepare and support my child through the transition to kinder?” Cr Damante said.

“With many local experts on hand with a focus on the health and wellbeing of children, this event puts the spotlight on the preschool years, which is a time of enormous growth and development,” she said.

“The transition from home to kindergarten is a significant stage in a child’s life. It is also an experience of mixed emotions for parents as they start their child on the path to learning within an educational program.”

Cr Damante said parents may be asking why they need to think about kinder enrolment now when it is only February or confused about what age is best to start their child at kinder.

“No single factor determines whether a child is ready to start kindergarten, which is why this expo comes at a great time, especially if you’re considering enrolling for next year,” she said.

The expo is timed to work with kindergarten enrolments for 2021, which open on Friday 1 March 2020.

Families can visit stallholders, speak to educators from local kindergartens and others to learn about the enrolment process, Maternal and Child Health assessments, immunisation, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) and more.
