Wyndham City is encouraging residents to help keep our City beautiful and take part in a clean-up event on 1st March.
As part of Clean Up Australia Day, community groups and volunteers will gather at several locations across the municipality to clean up rubbish.
Environment and Sustainability portfolio holder Cr Heather Marcus said it was an important day for the community to come together and take care of their surrounding environment.
“Last year we had hundreds of helpers and collected enormous amounts of rubbish from the sides of the road, our rivers and parks, and around housing estates and businesses,” Cr Marcus said.
“The main rubbish we tend to find is smaller plastic items, cans, bottles, and polystyrene but we sometimes manage to remove shopping trolleys and bigger items from our waterways.”
“Dumped rubbish looks unsightly and is damaging to our plant and animal life and pollutes our waterways.”
“We invite you to join us to clean up our City and we are grateful for whatever time you can afford.”
“Children accompanied by parents can come along and enjoy improving the environment while getting some fresh air and exercise.”
Nature West in conjunction with Wyndham City Council is hosting the main event at Manor Lakes Boulevard and information for smaller community-led events can be found here: https://www.cleanupaustraliaday.org.au/join-a-clean-up
Residents will meet at Manor Lakes Community Centre, 86 Manor Lakes Boulevard at Sunday, 1st March, at 10.30am. The event will go until 12.30pm with free lunch, including vegetarian options, served following the clean-up. This will be followed by local entertainment.
