Redeveloping the Little River tennis courts

Little River residents will be able to smash it like Roger Federer soon, thanks to a major, $450,000 upgrade of the tennis courts at Little River Sports Reserve.

Wyndham City is replacing the two existing asphalt tennis courts with two brand new concrete courts.

In addition, Council will install new drains to prevent flooding, create new pathways leading up to the courts, install a new fence and beautify the courts’ surroundings with attractive landscaping.

Sports Development portfolio holder Cr Peter Maynard said the upgrades would ensure the Little River Tennis Club continued to flourish.

“Little River Tennis Club was established all the way back in 1880, when the Little River Sports Reserve was built,” Cr Maynard said.

“Many of the club’s members have been playing at this reserve for the past five decades, with countless competitions and happy memories forged here.”

“The current courts are 25 years old and in a state of disrepair, with a cracked, uneven surface that frequently pools water – posing a safety risk to players.”

“The new concrete courts will be better suited to the Little River topography, providing a smooth and sturdy surface, with drains to capture water.”

“In addition, the upgrades will help the club expand and attract new members, with the potential to offer tennis lessons onsite once again.”

“Thanks to this major redevelopment, Little River residents can continue to slice, serve and rally as a community for years to come.”

Construction will start next week and be completed by the end of April.
