Lachlan Shire Council’s Social Media workshop for local businesses held on Wednesday was a great success.
The one-day session at Council’s Molong Street building was led by Regional Development Australia consultant and social media guru Fee Jennings.
The event was attended by 40 locals from the Shire business community who were there to learn how social media could benefit their operations.
The social media revolution has opened the doors for enterprises to get their messages out to literally the whole world in a cheap and easy way.
Ms Jennings guided her audience through the business marketing applications of Facebook and Instagram.
It was the first time many of the local businesspeople had been given training in using these powerful tools for marketing their products and services and many possibilities were opened up for them.
Council received a great deal of positive feedback from the participants after the workshop had ended.
Attendee Vicki Hanlon of Condobolin Newsagency said the workshop was “a great initiative.
“I thought the training was good and the turnout was fantastic,” Ms Hanlon said. “I did learn that I needed to add more to my bio on Instagram. We did also learn that we could possibly do cross promotions with other stores etc. that are not our direct competitors and that we sometimes need to go big. We learnt about various other apps that can make our posting easier or help us to schedule our posts and that there are optimum times when people are looking on Instagram and when you need to post.”
Council’s Economic Development and Tourism Officer Deb Keane, who facilitated the course, said, “the large turnout and the enthusiasm and feedback from the attendees are a good indicator as to how necessary these sort of information sessions are to supporting and growing businesses in our Lachlan Shire.”
The Council workshop was made possible thanks to the support of RDA Central West who engaged Ms Jennings and Evolution Mining who paid the $20 training fee for each of the participants.
