Excitement levels are increasing ahead of the Sydney Surf Pro, which begins at Manly Beach on March 8.

Speaking at the media launch this week, defending men's champion and North Narrabeen local Jordy Lawler is looking forward to hopefully defending his title.

"It was massive last year to win the event, and the support I had from family and friends was definitely a factor. Everything just aligned for me,'' he said.

“All the surfers taking part are amazing…I’ve heard (world number 11) Julian Wilson is competing, it would be epic to come up against him.

“I’m hoping to see big crowds and some familiar faces..the support from the Northern Beaches community is always appreciated.”

Northern Beaches Council Mayor Michael Regan said seeing top level surfers competing on local shores never gets old.

“The Sydney Surf Pro is a fantastic event that the community really got behind and supported last year, it was great to see.

“Seeing world class surfers like Tyler Wright and Carissa Moore plus WSL elite surfers ahead of the Tokyo Olympics plus local hopes (such as Jordy Lawler) on our doorstep..what else do you need?

“Council is happy to support a terrific event, I am sure it will be an amazing few days of surfing and entertainment… I’m tipping the locals will soak up every moment,'' the Mayor said.

The Sydney Surf Pro WSL Challenger Series event will run from March 8-14, 2020.
