Two runners representing the Northern Beaches community will soon depart for Japan to participate in the prestigious Senshu International marathon in Japan.

Lisa Duffy and Oliver Woolrych were selected from a field of more than 100 runners, who responded to Council’s call for race participants.

Every year, Northern Beaches Council selects two marathon runners to participate in the marathon.

The runners represent the Northern Beaches community and the arrangement is supported by the Tadaoka Town Government, which pays the return airfares and cost of accommodation for the two runners.

Mayor Michael Regan said he believed the two runners will represent the Northern Beaches very well in the marathon.

“Both Oliver and Lisa have demonstrated through the application process that they will be excellent ambassadors for our community.”

The Senshu International Marathon on Sunday 16 February is one of the major sporting events in Japan, with over 5,000 runners from across the country and overseas. It takes place in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture (Senshu area), passing through nine cities and four towns.
