Liveability funding for new Springwood Library entrance

Blue Mountains City Council has received just over $40,000 for Springwood Library in the second and final round of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program.  The funding will be used to design and construct a new entry from the existing car park into Springwood Library. This will be delivered as part of the current upgrade project at the Library, worth $2.5 million.

Round two of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program saw $40.2 million spent across projects in the Western Parkland City. The $190 million Liveability Program is part of the Western Sydney City Deal, an agreement between the Commonwealth, State Government and eight Western Sydney local councils. Mayor Mark Greenhill said: “We welcome the announcement of the Liveability Program funding for an extra component to the upgrade of Springwood Library. This means we can greatly improve access to the complex, for all our users, and particularly for those with mobility issues. 

“Springwood Library is an important community facility and it’s important to provide a second modern library for the growing Blue Mountains community.” Deputy Mayor, Cr Chris Van der Kley, said he was happy to attend the funding announcement on 19 February on behalf of the City. “This is more good news for the Blue Mountains and means further improvements to our public facilities,” he said.

Blue Mountains City Council provides six library facilities throughout the City, including Katoomba Library that celebrated its 5th birthday, along with the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre, in November 2017. 

The funding program aims to provide a liveability boost to local infrastructure across the Western Parkland City, which takes in the council areas of the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Penrith, Fairfield, Liverpool, Camden, Campbelltown and Wollondilly.
