Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) Principal Depot project has reached a major milestone with construction hitting 60 per cent completion.
TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair Geoff McDonald said construction was on track for completion in late April 2020.
“The stores building was completed in January and the remaining buildings are expected to be completed over the coming two months,” Cr McDonald said.
“The facility is expected to be fully operational by mid-2020.”
Cr McDonald said the depot would deliver a modern, sustainable facility to meet the current and future needs of Council staff and the Toowoomba Region.
“The project includes the construction of a central operations and management building, three workshop buildings, a central store, a nursery and a State Emergency Service (SES) Operations Centre,” Cr McDonald said.
“SES and Council resources will be co-located which will enable both groups to share information, resources and new technologies and provide a co-ordinated response in an emergency.
“The SES facility is jointly funded by the Queensland Government and Toowoomba Regional Council.”
Cr McDonald said the depot was required to replace ageing facilities at Harristown East and West, Oakey and the Toowoomba Nursery.
“The depot will deliver a modern facility with improved amenities and a better, safer working environment for about 500 staff who will be based there," he said.
“It will also include a number of sustainable design elements focused on water and energy efficiency to minimise the building’s environmental impact.”
