Ha-Le Thai’s life as an international speaker and bestselling author is a world away from the memories of fleeing war-torn Vietnam which once haunted her.
But for the 56-year-old Potts Hill resident, sharing stories about her harrowing journey to Australia to reflect on how far she’s come is a great source of strength.
It’s her attitude for life and her way of thinking that she hopes to instill in others at her exclusive talk at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre this Thursday.
Ms Thai said people can feel overwhelmed and often give up, but it’s important to build a sense of resilience and be adaptable to life’s changing circumstances.
"Every one of us is a warrior. We are already the full package but we too often forget our great attributes. That is why I’m doing this talk, to remind us all of what we’re capable of," Ms Thai said.
In her special appearance at Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre, Ms Thai will be sharing anecdotes and secrets from her books. She will also tell of how she managed to survive 25 days at sea in her search for freedom.
"We were meant to drown but we fought like warriors and survived… I came here as a barefoot refugee and now I have everything I could possibly want. It’s my passion for people to hear these stories so they too can have greater hope in their lives."
Mayor Khal Asfour said Bankstown was lucky to have such a well accomplished author and speaker coming to appear at the library.
"Ms Thai has overcome many hurdles and difficulties with great success to become an inspirational speaker, an award-winning author and a healer for many," Mayor Asfour said.
"I’d encourage the community to come hear her ideas and be inspired to go after any ambition they have, regardless of the challenges they may meet along the way."
