Wollondilly supports Clean Up Australia Day on 1 March 2020

Wollondilly Shire Council has been supporting Clean Up Australia Day for over 10 years and in 2020 is once again encouraging residents, schools and businesses to become involved. Registering a local site for Clean Up Australia Day is the perfect way to get rid of rubbish that is accumulating on neighbourhood streets, in parks, bushland and waterways. There are a number of sites in Wollondilly where residents are taking part in the national event this year including Razorback, Douglas Park, Mermaids Pool and Yanderra and Wilton Public Schools. Community members can get involved by either running their own event or getting involved in other events across the Shire. Wollondilly Mayor Matthew Deeth said, “Clean Up Australia Day is a great opportunity to take a look around your local area - your streets, parks, sportsgrounds, bush land and waterways to find those rubbish hotspots that need attention and register a local site for special attention.” “Volunteers play a valuable role in helping to reduce the impact of waste on our natural areas and our townships,” he said. Council can provide support for clean up events through providing things like gloves, bags and also picking up and disposing of the waste that is collected.
