The recycling and reuse of concrete from Council construction projects has saved ratepayers more than $1 million in State Government landfill fees.
As part of Council’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Strategy, Council started recycling concrete waste from Council construction projects.
From June 2019 to January 2020, Council processed 15,000 tonnes of concrete and reused about 7,500 tonnes of this on civil projects.
This enabled to Council to avoid disposing the concrete to landfill, therefore saving $1.1 million in State landfill fees.
The reuse of the concrete has also saved Council $150,000 in material costs.
