Strap on your shoes and slap on a hat and get to one of Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) 35 park activities that celebrate Parks Week 2020 from 7 to 15 March.
TRC Environment and Community Services General Manager Nick Hauser said that Parks Week 2020 focuses on how spending time in our parks and open spaces positively influence our wellbeing.
“A range of unique experiences are on offer including tunnel, tramway and rainforests treks, amazing waterfalls and national parks as well as mountain bike tracks and bridle trails,” Mr Hauser said.
“J.E. Duggan Park offers our first all-abilities accessible trail, with the Sensory Walk suitable for wheelchairs and mobility devices and the Wallaby Walk perfect for people with limited mobility.
“Parks Week gives you the chance to get together with friends and family and join in 1 of 26 free and low-cost CHANGE Project activities on offer during Parks Week, including kids’ fitness groups, chair yoga, walking and running groups, Zumba and more.
“Green-thumbs can head to the social morning gatherings on Wednesdays and Sundays at the Community Garden on Goggs Street to check out the permaculture project, bushfoods and composting areas.
“Your fury friend need not miss out on the fun of Parks Week with 24 dog off-leash parks available across the region, including our fully fenced dog off-leash park at North Ruthven Reserve featuring separate fenced off-leash areas for small and large dogs.
“During Parks Week, why not try out the new climbing tower, flying fox and hamster wheel at the Queens Park Margaret Street playground.
“Games with friends are set to multiply at Newtown Park with upgraded courts and a multi-purpose facility creating handball, hopscotch, basketball, netball and tennis opportunities.
“If Mountain Biking or BMX is more your thing, then Parks Week might be the ideal time to test your skills at the recently upgraded bike skills park on Stenner Street.
“Get your skates on at the refurbished Clifton skatepark and enjoy one of the five free regional skate and scooter workshops at Westbrook, Clifton, Crows Nest, Oakey and Cecil Plains. The workshops will cater to the skater or scooter who wants to learn the basics or land some new tricks at their local skatepark.
“Parks Week is an opportunity to highlight our regions parks and open spaces and get people out of their living rooms and enjoying their neighbourhood parks and open recreation spaces.”
Parks Week is celebrated throughout Australia and New Zealand as a combined initiative of Parks and Leisure Australia and New Zealand Recreation Association.
