Strengthening North-South transport links

City of Canterbury Bankstown has announced their commitment to seeking options for a public transport spine between Campsie and Burwood.

Mayor Khal Asfour said City of Canterbury Bankstown’s contribution of up to $15,000 to a joint study with Burwood Council was approved by Council overnight.

"Canterbury-Bankstown is a community that continues to grow and because of this there is a continuous need to provide responsive public transport options to service the increasing population," he said.

"Our pressing need is to enhance our north to south connectivity.

"From getting to work, school, sport or simply doing the groceries, an efficient, reliable and safe transport system is vital to a prosperous and safe community.

In line with Council’s Local Strategic Plan, City of Canterbury Bankstown will support Burwood Council and aim to strengthen the Campsie to Burwood transport link while being proactive in approaching the future.

"The purpose of the feasibility study is to examine the problem and constraints that exist and then assess the opportunities and how they might support our community’s transport needs," Mayor Asfour said.

Together with Burwood Council, City of Canterbury Bankstown are hoping to gain support from the NSW Government to approve any future pilot project.
