What do you think of the new guidelines that support Council’s Roadside and Footpath Trading Policy?
The draft Mobile Trading Guidelines cover mobile trading on Council land from 1 July 2020, which includes mobile trading on roadsides, parks and reserves.
It is important that use of public space for commercial activities is complimentary to an area’s purpose and is not detrimental to fixed businesses in the area. The new guidelines will provide a consistent and coordinated process for the operation of mobile trading across Macedon Ranges Shire.
Director Assets and Operations, Shane Walden said residents expressed support for mobile trading during community consultation on the Roadside and Footpath Trading Policy.
“Council recognises the important role street trading plays in creating vibrant and sustainable towns,” Mr Walden said.
“These draft guidelines are designed to support the operation of mobile trading, while maintaining safety and amenity for local businesses, pedestrians and motorists.
“Council is seeking community feedback to determine whether these guidelines balance the needs of all stakeholders.
“We are seeking feedback from local businesses, pedestrians and motorists and the general community; have your say now.”
The draft guidelines will be available for comment until Tuesday 7 April.
