The Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER) has written to the Shire advising that the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) is seeking public comment on the northern and central sections of the Bunbury Outer Ring Road (BORR). The EPA has set the level of assessment for this proposal at “Referral information with additional information required under section 40(2)(a) of the Environmental Protection Act 1986 (four week public review). The closing date for submissions is 9 April 2020.
The documentation to support the application is publicly available at the EPA’s website at http://www.epa.wa.gov.au/proposals/bunbury-outer-ring-road-northern-and-central-sections.
The hard copies of these documents would normally be placed at the front counter for customer perusal, however, due to COVID 19 closures, this is not possible. Any enquiries about accessing material can be directed to the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation.
The section of the BORR considered under the ‘northern and central’ proposal is shown in the diagram below. There are only two small sections that actually penetrate into the Shire of Capel, being the western extension of the central section near the South Western Highway /Centenary Road intersection, and a smaller section near the South Western Highway / Lilydale Road intersection. Both these sections are largely cleared and have a small environmental impact compared the much larger balance of the this proposal.
A separate referral for the southern section is expected in the next few weeks, which is expected to seek public comment for a longer, eight week period, but this is yet to be confirmed.
