Lithgow Mayor Ray Thompson urged Lithgow residents to fully support and comply with the directions forthcoming from the Federal and State authorities, as we all battle the introduction of the COVID 19 Virus into our lives.
“Council is in daily contact with State Authorities including NSW Health and Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District (NBMLHD) and Council’s website is updated daily with the advice provided by those entities” said the Mayor.
“We know from our Bushfire emergency experience of the recent past, that it is absolutely necessary to have one single source of truth in emergency situations.
As we published updated RFS information daily during our bushfire emergency, so too we publish updates daily from the relevant State Agencies on COVID 19 and the strategies employed,” said Mayor Thompson.
Council services have been altered in the short term albeit, subject to regular review as the COVID 19 situation unfolds, and with a renewed purpose of assisting to keep all members of our community as safe as possible, and a readiness to respond to issues that Council may be able to assist with.
Council staff continue to work within new social distancing strategies, and Council is now exploring the potential for Council meetings to be conducted electronically following the changes to legislation affecting meeting protocols.
“I recommend the community continue check the Council and State Government websites and refrain from relying on social media commentary for their information, which from our experience during the Bushfire emergency was less than accurate on many occasions” said Mayor Thompson.
