City of Parramatta Council is seeking feedback from the community on the concept design plans for upgrades to Sturt and Acacia parks in Telopea, to be funded by the NSW Government.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer said the proposed designs would greatly improve the park’s facilities and help meet the current and future needs of local residents and businesses.

“I look forward to receiving the community’s feedback on Council’s proposed concept designs for the important upgrades to Sturt and Acacia parks,” Cr Dwyer said.

“The City of Parramatta is committed to improving green spaces and public facilities to serve our growing communities. These facilities are used by locals on a regular basis, so it is important that Council involves residents in the design and planning process, to ensure the upgrades meet their needs.”

Member for Parramatta Geoff Lee said the upgrades to Sturt and Acacia parks were allocated $5 million from the NSW Government’s $100 million Precinct Support Scheme.

“The proposed plans for Sturt Park include better lighting, improved playground equipment and pathways, an upgraded amenities building, a nature play area, an area for tai-chi, a multi-use court, exercise equipment, improvements to The Ponds Walk and bushland, new seating, sheltered picnic areas, and barbeques,” Dr Lee said.

“For Acacia Park, the concept design proposes new equipment to suit both younger and older children, an accessible platform with a unique view of the Parramatta CBD, a public toilet, barbeques, picnic tables and benches, as well as a new walking track with blocks along the route for strength exercise or resting.

“Parks are for everyone to enjoy so it’s vitally important urban communities have easy access to quality green open spaces to help keep residents active, happy and healthy.”

The concept plans are on public exhibition for comment until 6 April. For more information and to have your say please visit: oursay.org/cityofparramatta/sturtparkacaciaparks.
