Playgrounds, exercise equipment and skate parks throughout the Gannawarra are now closed as part of efforts to stop the spread of Coronavirus and save lives.
Council enacted upon Federal and State government directives announced on 29 March, which strengthen efforts across Australia to reduce the spread of the virus and the associated health and economic impacts.
“This directive covers all playgrounds, exercise equipment and skate parks across the Gannawarra Shire, until further notice,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.
“Local playgrounds, exercise equipment and skate parks are places where people meet and at this time people should not be gathering.
“The closure of these facilities is part of the next stage of controls with gatherings now restricted to be no more than two people, except for those who are in a household and for work or educational purposes. Social distancing rules of maintaining 1.5 metres between people is still required to be observed.”
Residents are reminded that the restrictions are enforceable and people are required to stay at home unless for the following essential reasons:
Shopping for what you need - food and essential supplies; Medical, care or compassionate needs; Exercise in compliance with the public gathering requirements; and Work and study if you can’t work or learn remotely.“With cases across Australia continuing to increase, now is a critical time for us all to take responsibility and help stop the spread of Coronavirus,” Mayor Learmonth said.
“Taking action now and complying with the restrictions will lessen the long-term impacts and help save lives.”
