Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will minimise face-to-face interaction at its Animal Management Centre (Anzac Ave, Toowoomba) by limiting access to the public through the implementation of a temporary appointment system for animal releases.
TRC Chief Executive Officer Brian Pidgeon said the decision is based on advice provided by the government and community expectations that promote higher levels of social distancing in the interests of public health and safety.
“During this unprecedented Coronavirus (COVID-19) health event, we must abide by the advice given to us by the State and Federal Governments,” Mr Pidgeon said.
“The decision will mean that any animal drop-offs are to be placed in the drop-off box, and animal releases will be by appointment only.
“Appointments to arrange the release of an animal can be made with the Animal Management Centre by calling 131 872 and quoting ‘animal management’.
“Customers who have an appointment will be given priority.
“For visitors to the Animal Management Centre who do not have an appointment, there may be a delay with staff only able to assist one customer at a time.
“Council apologises for any inconvenience these temporary changes to our regular service may cause and we ask customers for their patience during this pandemic.
“Council is not removing the service; only temporarily limiting face-to-face interactions in response to community sentiment and health guidelines.
“The current situation requires swift but measured action, and we’re doing our best to respond as quickly as possible to Commonwealth Government directions and Queensland Health advice, partnered with our own risk assessment which prioritises the health and wellbeing of the community and our employees.”
