Celebrities unite to support residents

​City of Canterbury Bankstown has called on some of its local personalities and television stars to help spread the safety message about the Coronavirus.

The video messages will reinforce the Government and the Council’s messaging and will be rolled out on social media, and the Council’s website, from tomorrow.

Australian actor Bryan Brown and former Bulldog’s star Hazem El-Masri are just two locals getting behind the innovative campaign. Casey Donovan and Steve Waugh are also involved.

Others who have recorded messages include the Today Show hosts Karl Stefanovic and Allison Langdon, Sandra Sully and Tim Bailey from 10 News First.

City of Canterbury Bankstown like many other councils has been forced to close its libraries, pools and even the Bryan Brown Theatre.

Mr Brown, who was raised in Panania, said closing the theatre was for the safety of the community.

“What your City of Canterbury Bankstown and what the world is dealing with at the moment is very real and it’s pretty horrible… so I urge you to do what I’m doing which is stay inside,” Bryan Brown said.

“I urge you to do what’s asked of us all, wash your hands, self-isolate, safe distancing… if we all pull together we can all come out ok.”

Canterbury Bankstown Mayor, Khal Asfour, said he was overwhelmed by their messages of support.

“I was absolutely over the moon by their response to help our city,” Mayor Asfour said.

“We needed to get the message out there and what better way than to use our own local stars with the help of some well-known TV identities.

Mr Asfour said there were still some people in the community not listening to the advice of the PM or Chief Health Officer.
