Mayor of City of Canterbury Bankstown, Khal Asfour is reassuring non-English speaking residents that there is translated COVID-19 information on the NSW Health website.
"It breaks my heart that non-English speakers in our community feel they are in an information vacuum about Coronavirus simply because they don’t know where to look," he said.
"For residents in the City of Canterbury Bankstown, you can visit the NSW Health website now for translated materials including frequently asked questions in eight languages.
"Community members have approached me about getting information in another language for their family, friends, neighbours and I want to thank them for looking out for one another.
"People should not have to resort to getting information from other countries, I want to let you know we are working with State and Federal Governments to ensure you are informed.
"Like our community, our Council staff are from diverse backgrounds, so as always, if you have a Council issue we may be able to assist you with one of our native speakers at Council.
"Together, we’ll get through this."
For immediate phone interpretation, residents should call the Translating and Interpreting Service on 131 450.
