The Lawson Park Amenities project is continuing with major progress made over the last 3-4 weeks.

The steel structure roofing and brickwork have been completed with framing, internal drainage and electrical work being completed. Internal sheeting, kitchen fit out, tiling, seating and dressing room fit out has been ordered for installation within the next four weeks.

The upgrade of the amenities at Lawson Park is part of the Lawson Park Management Plan and has been made possible by grant funding provided by the State Government under Round 2 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).

The SCCF funding will be a ‘game changer’ for sport in the Weddin Shire as the upgraded sports facilities gives every person in the Weddin Shire access to ‘State of the Art’ sporting facilities which will assist them in reaching their full potential in their chosen sport.

Another capital project underway is the upgrade of the Grenfell Sewerage Treatment Plant. As residents are aware Council has received grant funding of $12.3m under the Regional Water and Waste Water Backlog Program to upgrade the plant.

This approval was part of the NSW Government’s $110million Regional Water and Waste Water Backlog Program to ensure regional communities have the right infrastructure to build for the future. The Regional Water and Waste Water Backlog Program enables the construction of modern water and sewerage infrastructure and associated works to provide safe, secure and reliable water and sewerage services to communities.

In regards to the status of the project Council is currently calling tenders for the construction of the new plant with tenders closing on the 7 April 2020. There will be a period of tender review and assessment with construction works to commence thereafter.

The Grenfell Main Street upgrade is another capital project to be undertaken by Council with the detailed engineering plans submitted to the local traffic committee meeting last Friday for consideration.

After considering the plans it became evident that further changes to the plans are required which will push the project schedule back. Given the current situation the commencement of works will be delayed which effectively means that the festival can be held in the Main Street this year on the June Long weekend. It is understood this was considered by the festival committee last night. There will also be further consultation with the business sector in regards to the logistics of the project in due course.

Council is obliged to expend the grant funding from the Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF) Round 1 by the end of August 2020.

Council was recently successful in the application for further assistance with water carting to the township of Caragabal. The assistance from the State Government is very much appreciated particularly in times of high demand which we experience in the month of January.

Council applied for financial assistance under the 2018/2019 Floodplain Management Program for the Bimbi flood Study and was successful. Grant funding of $51,428.27 has been offered and accepted. A draft work plan has been compiled in collaboration with Office Environment and Heritage (OEH) to facilitate the commencement of the study.

AMP is once again offering $1 million in grants to amazing Australians doing great things.

Now in its seventh year, this unique grants program is open to individuals of all ages, walks of life and interests. In 2019, AMP’s Tomorrow Fund awarded 37 grants to artists, athletes, inventors, social innovators, scientists, writers, disability advocates, musicians and more. What they have in common is a desire to give back – whether they are creating something special or inspiring others.

AMP Foundation is looking for more talented and innovative Australians who are working hard on a project or passion but just need a financial boost to take it to the next level. Grants of between $5,000 to $100,000 are available and can cover a range of activities, including training, travel and equipment costs, living expenses, rent and research.

The current exhibition at the Grenfell Art Gallery is “Our Changing Landscape”. Ted Lewis and William (Bill) O’Shea are both highly recognised Australian artists and are well known for their love of the Australian landscape.

William (Bill’s) artwork distinctly embodies the love he has of rural Australia – nature, landscapes, homesteads, pubs, woolsheds and farming life in general and Bill takes pride in his ability to help preserve part of Australia’s heritage on canvas.

The Art Gallery is open Monday to Friday 10am - 4pm, Saturday 10am - 3pm & Sunday 10am -2pm.
