A team of youths has been brainstorming ideas to create an engaging, artistic design for a street art mural that celebrates young people ahead of Queensland Youth Week 2020 (QYW20).
To be held from 1–9 April 2020, this year's theme ‘Yeah the Youth!’ is a call to friendship, strength and unity between young people and a celebration of who they are and what they offer to our great state.
Livingstone’s Youth Action Group, which was established in 2019 has met to discuss its plans for 2020 Youth Week Street Art project which aims to reflect one or more of three key issues including the environment, mental health and relationships.
A Council spokesperson said local youth were also encouraged to take part in an online survey via Council’s Get Involved website, which had received a positive response.
“The survey sought feedback from young people in Livingstone on what particular issue they would like to see featured in the mural and where it should be located,” the spokesperson said.
“The youth of Livingstone are an integral part of the region’s future, and it’s important to facilitate projects like this that allow young people to collaborate and be creative in a meaningful way.
“This youth-focused project has been funded as part of Queensland Youth Week 2020 (QYW20) and Council would like to thank the Queensland Government for its funding support towards this project.”
“The Livingstone Youth Action Group includes students from different year levels and schools who come together to get involved in a variety of projects, aimed at creating supportive and healthy environments for young people.
“The group welcomes anyone aged between 12 to 24 years who is interested in playing a role in decisions that affect young people and developing new skills.”
There will be more opportunities to get involved in the street art project so local youth are encouraged to keep an eye on Councils Youth in Livingstone Facebook Page for more information.
