Works to rejuvenate one of the Gannawarra’s busiest council-managed roads has started. Staff will spend the coming weeks resurfacing Victoria Street, Kerang between Wellington and Scoresby Streets. “This section of road is one of the busiest roads we manage, as it services residents, business owners and visitors to Kerang," Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said. “These works are part of Council’s annual sealed road maintenance program, and will be the first time works of this magnitude have occurred in the Kerang CBD since the rejuvenation of Victoria Square.” The first stage of the upgrade occurred on 29 February with the removal of the road surface at the intersection of Scoresby and Victoria streets. “These works have coincided with Lower Murray Water’s replacement of old water mains at the intersection in late 2019,” Mr O’Reilly said. Stage 2 of the works are scheduled to occur on Saturday, 14 March with the roundabout being cement stabilised in readiness for the new asphalt to be installed between late March and early April. “Asphalting works will also occur along the length of Victoria Street in Kerang’s central business district, the intersection of Fitzroy and Scoresby streets and Scoresby Street between Fitzroy and Victoria streets,” Mr O’Reilly said. “To ensure minimal disruption, the stabilisation of pavement will occur on weekends and all asphalting works will be completed at night. “Council thanks motorists, residents and business owners for their patience as these important works are undertaken.”
