The Gearing Up driver mentoring program has had a great start to the year, with four learners passing their L2s and six learners passing their P tests so far!

One of these learners was Cynthia from Kingston, who joined the program in May 2019 and was matched with several mentors who supervised her while she gained on-road hours in the Gearing Up car. As a new mum, Cynthia was very pleased to be able to get her licence and have the newfound independence that this skill brings.

Gearing Up is a State Growth-funded program that helps disadvantaged learners obtain their provisional licence by providing access to a car and volunteer mentor, fuel and insurance. The program has two cars available, with one located in Huonville and another at the Kingborough Civic Centre car park for residents of the Kingston and Channel area.

If you want to learn to drive but have trouble accessing a supervisory driver and/or vehicle, please give Gearing Up a call on (03) 6264 0300 to find out more about this free program.

If you are interested in volunteering as a mentor please call (03) 6264 0300 or email [email protected].
