With the Easter Long Weekend coming up marks the return of Fremantle’s International Street Arts Festival—a celebration of Fremantle’s local busking culture. As South Terrace and Market Street close down, the streets come alive with international acts, locally known performers and all-round fun for the family.

This year we’re spoilt for choice on who to watch first— luckily the City of Fremantle have you covered with a hottest acts list, guaranteed to keep you having fun the whole weekend.

West End Weekender

Come down to High Street as it comes alive with markets, beer gardens, international food trucks and more. There are crafts, games and hula-hooping for the kids, as well as street beer gardens for the adults. Enjoy live music from retro artist King Fez and guests to wow you with 50s vibes that guarantee you’ll be dancing along. Running from Saturday 11 April to Monday 13 April 11am to 5pm.

On The Inside

Performing from 10 April onwards, On the Inside is definitely a performance you have to see to believe.  French circus performer Line in the Air and guitarist Eric Roeting join forces to blur the lines between musical performance and physical performance, in a showcase they describe as “escaping the current set of rules”.

What Lies Beneath

Brought to you by the performance company ERTH; What Lies Beneath gives a glimpse into the deep end. Explore the deep depths of the ocean with this roving installation with human-like creatures, as they journey through the clouds of illuminated mist. Discover life sized-puppets, dancing zebras, floating jellyfish and more.

Bait & Switch

Mat Ricardo is known for being the show-stealing, jaw-dropping, hilarious man who can rock a fantastic suit. Mat combines magic tricks and laughs to audiences around the world, including America’s Got Talent last year, and has won such awards as Stagetalk Show of the Year and the Herald Angel Award for theatre. Bait & Switch showcases Mat Ricardo’s impossible stunts that you’ll never forget.

Paul Currie

Hailing from the UK, Paul Currie is bringing his one-man ‘Monty Pythonesque’ show featuring a whirlwind of mime puppets, crowd participation, comedy, surrealism and more. Come see Paul Currie from Friday 10 April to Monday 13 in his many shows around Fremantle. Expect mayhem and anarchy.

Zimboyz

This dynamic group are coming together to bring their thrilling and daring show to Fremantle. Get ready for one of the best acrobatic troupes to come out of Africa. Be wowed by their chair balancing, fire hoops, and pure muscle strength. Outside of their daredevil antics the Zimboyz are sure to keep you smiling with their explosive energy and cheeky personalities.

Bogomila & Son Pty Ltd

Travelling all the way from the heart of the Balkan Mountains, Bogomila and Son are giving Fremantle the chance to have a glimpse into their future— if you dare. As they say: “your wish is our 20 cents”. This performance is guaranteed to provide laughs as well as psychic services, beauty tips, magical charms and more. Performances run from Friday 10 April until Monday 13.

Crap Music Rave Party

If you’re a fan of the best of worst songs through the decade, then Crap Music Rave Party is the event for you. With Freo’s own international party starter Tomás Ford no Crap Music Rave Party is the same. Expect UV lights, hand-held lighting, tacky costumes, non-stop hyperactivity and lots of dancing. Crap Music Rave Party will be hosted at the National Hotel Pitch on Saturday 11 April and Sunday 12. Song requests are encouraged under one condition— it’s terrible.

$hantalle & Jerry

Here comes trouble! This outrageous duo is bringing bogan chic to acrobatics, with acrobatic bicycle tricks, hula-hoops, circus artistry and sex-appeal of what they personally describe as ‘above average’ levels. Expect laughs, expect fun, expect adventure, but mostly—expect chest tattoos.

Junkadelic Brass Band

Having played such festivals as Fairbridge and Nannup Music Festival, Perth’s very own Junkadelic Brass Band has been quick to make a name for themselves. Made up of brass, deep-rooted soul vocals and funk fuelled percussion, Junkadelic bring their love of New Orleans street music and their love of big band sound to Fremantle. Check them out on Sunday 12 April for some funky grooves.
