Many of you will have heard the news that Coffs Harbour won this year’s Wotif Aussie Town of the Year award – the first time a NSW destination has come out on top.

This is fantastic news for the Coffs Coast coming so soon after the recent bushfires and floods in the Orara Valley.

As visitors are being encouraged to holiday locally in Australia this year after a very difficult summer, this award shines a national spotlight on what we can offer to potentially hundreds of thousands of visitors.

The awards recognise trending destinations for the year ahead and are aimed at encouraging Aussies to spend more time exploring and supporting local communities.

The 2020 announcement comes at a particularly significant time for Australian tourism, with new research revealing that one in three Aussies say they’ve “fallen back in love with travelling in Australia” in the aftermath of the summer bushfires and ongoing drought.

And we can’t argue with this stamp of approval from Wotif’s customer base.

Now in its third year, the 2020 Wotif Aussie Town of the Year awards are based on data that recognises destinations that offer good affordability, well-rated accommodation and increasing traveller interest over the previous twelve months on Wotif.com.

We know we live in the most beautiful place in Australia and now Wotif has confirmed it by naming us the number one ‘Aussie Town of the Year’.

With our beautiful beaches, world-class events, delicious food, amazing nature experiences and growing art and cultural industries, it’s no surprise! We welcome all of Australia to visit our magnificent Coffs Coast.

So let’s all help spread the message that the Coffs Coast is the best place to holiday in Australia!

Congratulations

I’ve said it a few times since the Elton shows, but I want to use this Column too to congratulate Council’s Stadium and Major Events Team, led by Daniel Heather, for the fantastic job they did behind the scenes to make the concerts run so smoothly.

It’s been really lovely to hear so many positive comments from concert-goers about how well it was run. Well done!

International Women’s Day

Congratulations to all the nominees and winners of this year’s International Women’s Day Awards held yesterday. International Women’s Day is a great celebration of women’s achievements and it was fabulous to hear of the fantastic work women are doing in our very own community. Well done to you all.
