Transport for NSW advises that flooding has closed several roads north of Lachlan Shire which may affect transport plans by local farmers and truck drivers.
On the Mitchell Highway 7km north of Enngonia at Cato Creek (32km south of the Queensland border), the highway is closed 50km south of Cunnamulla (in QLD).
The Mitchell Highway between the NSW/Queensland Border and North Bourke is only an approved Type 2 Road Train Route. There won’t be another option for these types of vehicle configurations.
On the Castlereagh Highway 800m south of Angledool Rd at Narran River (15km south of the Queensland border), the highway is closed 25km and 40km south of Dirranbandi and 2km east of Dirranbandi (in Queensland).
Between the Lightning Ridge turn-off and Goodooga turn-off at Weetalibah Creek (40km south of the Queensland border), if water crosses at Weetalibah it will wash away the road. Closure preventing all vehicular access will be required either side.
The Kamilaroi and Gwydir highways are not expected to be impacted by floodwater although they may experience flash flooding with localised storms. Both of these highways can connect customers to the Newell Highway, enabling access to and from NSW and Queensland.
There are five NSW/Queensland state road interfaces in the Transport for NSW Western Region. Their current status is as follows
· Silver City Hwy (currently closed between Packsaddle and Warri Gate);
· Mitchell Hwy (closed in QLD, expected to close in NSW early this week);
· Castlereagh Hwy (closed);
· Carnarvon Hwy is open both sides; and
· Newell Hwy is open both sides.
