Demystifying the HSC & ATAR and Beyond Year 12

Making decisions for life after high school can be daunting for parents, carers and students, but two free forums hosted by Blue Mountains Library can help.

Experts from the Universities Admission Centre (UAC), NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA), TAFE and high schools will unravel the complexities of the Higher School Certificate (HSC) and the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) at the forums to be held on 19 and 26 March.

Blue Mountains Mayor Mark Greenhill said the sessions were designed to present a wealth of information to attendees and provide a chance for key questions to be asked. 

“High school representatives will address wellbeing and survival tips for students, as well as how to get the most from the final years of school,” Mayor Greenhill said. “Julie Pyne from NESA will provide an overview of the HSC and the complexities of the moderation system used for marking. 

“TAFE Counsellor, Steph Roper, will give insights into the TAFE system and the many different pathways it provides for tertiary study and Trudy Noller from UAC will address how ATAR is compiled and when and how to get the most from University applications.”

Light refreshments will be served at the forums, and there will also be trivia and prizes.

Blue Mountains Library has comprehensive HSC resources for students including study guides for loan, plus a huge range of useful databases and links that can be accessed online, on the Library website.

The Demystifying HSC & ATAR - Beyond Year 12 forums will be held at Katoomba Library on 19 March 2020 and Springwood Library on 26 March 2020. The sessions run from 7 to 9pm. Bookings are essential, so please call or visit any Library branch or book online.
