Protecting heritage in Hurlstone Park

​Hurlstone Park has a rich history, which Council hopes can be shared with as many generations as possible by expanding heritage protection in the area.

Mayor Khal Asfour said residents are encouraged to have their say on the Hurlstone Park Planning Proposal.

“A key priority of ours is to protect the character of our local areas, particularly the ones with immense authenticity,” he said.

“We are proposing some adjustments from the previously exhibited proposal, which are being put forward to the community for consultation.

The revised amendments to the Hurlstone Park Planning Proposal include:

Two additional Heritage Conservation Areas (HCAs) – Railway Street and Starkey Street;Expansion and consolidation of previously proposed HCAs;12 new properties proposed for heritage listing;Six draft heritage items no longer proposed for listing; andDraft Tennent Parade HCA has been removed.

Discussions on the future of the area have begun, with the opportunity for interested residents to provide their thoughts onsite (Hurlstone Memorial Park) on Saturday 7 March from 2-4pm. Residents can also have their say at a drop-in session at the corner of Crinan and Duntroon St, Hurlstone Park on Wednesday 11 March between 5-7pm.
