Isaac Regional Council wishes to advise all community members where to access accurate and authorised information relating to matters of health and engaging with health services. There are a number of authorised organisations providing accurate advice regarding the novel coronavirus outbreak.
Strong hygiene practices are extremely important at all times, especially during cold and flu periods. These practices are a proven prevention method to reduce the spread and transmission of disease. These practices include;
Washing your hands often, for at least 20 seconds with soap and water. The regular use of alcohol-based hand sanitisers is recommended however may not be as effective as washing with soap and water. Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough with tissue and dispose of appropriately. Regularly clean and disinfect surfaces at home and in your work area.For further information regarding appropriate hygiene practices, refer to Queensland Health’s website health.qld.gov.au and the “6 Steps To Successful Handwashing” poster.
If you are concerned or exhibiting cold or flu symptoms, particularly cough and/or fever it is advised you contact 13HEALTH (13 43 25 84) or HEALTH DIRECT (1800 022 222) for advice. Please ensure that if you need to seek medical attention after contacting 13HEALTH or HEALTH DIRECT – phone ahead and advise medical centre staff of your concerns before attending the medical practice or hospital. Calling ahead is for your personal safety, the safety of our health professionals and to ensure the time and resources of our health services are being prioritised in an appropriate manner.
